Houthi Militia Besieges the Home of Sheikh Sadiq Abu Ras, Head of the General People’s Congress, with Military Vehicles and Armored Units

On Saturday evening, Houthi militia forces imposed a tight security cordon around the home of Sheikh Sadiq Amin Abu Ras, the President of the General People’s Congress (GPC), deploying military convoys and armored vehicles in a serious escalation targeting the party’s leadership.

Political sources reported that armed groups stormed the area surrounding Abu Ras’s residence and enforced a blockade preventing entry and exit, without providing any justification.

GPC leaders, speaking to Khabar Agency, described the Houthi behavior as “a blatant violation of all red lines and a direct assault on political activity and the sanctity of homes.”

They stressed that this move reveals the widening crackdown carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia against leaders and members of the General People’s Congress, as well as its systematic targeting of various political parties amid escalating abuses against its opponents and those who reject its repressive policies.

Political sources added that the siege on Abu Ras’s home is part of the militia’s broader approach of crushing any space for independent political activity within its areas of control, sending intimidating messages to party leaders and reflecting the nature of the security regime it is attempting to impose by force.

This escalation comes as the Houthi militia continues to detain Sheikh Ghazi Ahmed Al-Ahwal, the GPC Secretary-General, who was abducted on August 20, 2025, from central Sana’a. The group refuses to disclose his fate to this day, despite local and international calls demanding his release or allowing his family to know his legal and health status.

Al-Ahwal’s abduction took place one day after the GPC announced the cancellation of its celebrations marking the 43rd anniversary of its founding, scheduled for the same month.
