Five Students Killed and Injured in Houthi’s Live-fire Exercises in Yemen's Taiz
Two students were killed and three others critically injured during live ammunition military training conducted by the Houthi militia for students of Al-Hikma University in the Al-Huban area, east of Taiz city. Colonel Abdul Basit Al-Bahr, spokesperson for the Taiz Axis said.
Al-Bahr stated that the Houthis, which control the region, organized the training under the name "Al-Aqsa Flood," coercing students to participate in live-fire exercises that resulted in the tragic incident. He further noted that the militia has imposed a strict media blackout to suppress details of the event.
This incident highlights the Houthi’s escalating campaign to recruit students and exploit educational institutions for military purposes, effectively turning young civilians into tools for their ongoing conflict.
The use of universities and schools as platforms for military training has drawn widespread condemnation, as it endangers lives and undermines the educational environment.
The Houthi’s actions continue to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, with reports of forced recruitment and the militarization of civilian spaces becoming increasingly common.
This latest tragedy underscores the urgent need for international attention to protect civilians, particularly students, from being drawn into the conflict.
