Weapons Cache Bound for Houthis Seized Near Bab al-Mandab

Yemeni Security forces operating near the Bab al-Mandab waterway intercepted a weapons shipment destined for Houthis on Monday, officials reported.

The raid occurred at a security checkpoint in Lahj Governorate's Mudaraba district, where authorities confiscated a vehicle loaded with various types of ammunition. Security personnel engaged in a firefight with smugglers attempting to bypass the checkpoint en route to Houthi-controlled territory.

Brigadier General Abdulrahman al-Mahrami, a senior military official, commended the operation as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt weapons trafficking networks supplying Yemen's rebel forces. "This successful interdiction demonstrates our commitment to securing the region and cutting off militant supply lines," al-Mahrami stated.

The operation forms part of a broader campaign to monitor smuggling routes along Yemen's western coast, where weapons shipments frequently transit toward Houthi-held areas. The Bab al-Mandab Strait, a critical maritime chokepoint, has seen increased security measures amid regional tensions.
