Human Rights Report Documents Over 692 Houthi Violations Against Civilians in Yemen's Sanaa During 2024

A 2024 report by the Yemeni human rights organization D-Yament for Rights and Development has documented 692 Houthi violations against civilians in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, over the past year. The reported abuses include killings, arbitrary detentions, illegal trials, torture, looting, and the recruitment of minors.

The findings, released on [insert date], said that 513 civilians were directly impacted, including 477 men, 21 women, and 15 children. Sector-specific violations reportedly targeted 31 incidents in education, 40 in the private sector, 7 in government institutions, 17 against places of worship, and 10 against civil society organizations.

Fahmi Al-Zubairi, Director General of the Human Rights Office in Sana’a’s Capital Secretariat, stated that 192 cases of illegal political trials and 133 arbitrary arrests were recorded, with Al-Sabeen District cited as the most affected area (239 reported cases). He emphasized concerns over systemic abuses, including torture and the forced recruitment of children by Houthis.
